The United Socialist States of Opressed Labor is a very large, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its compulsory military service, state-planned economy, and stringent health and safety legislation. The cynical, devout population of 133 million Opressed Laborians are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The enormous, socially-minded, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Law & Order, and Welfare. The average income tax rate is 66.3%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but stagnant Opressed Laborian economy, worth 2.37 trillion dollars a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a slick, highly efficient, quite specialized black market in Trout Farming, Basket Weaving, Uranium Mining, and Furniture Restoration. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 17,795 dollars, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

The government regularly reassures citizens that there are no monsters under their beds, weekly religious services often resemble campaign rallies, people's charity begins and ends at home, and the nation's counterintelligence budget is all up in the air. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Opressed Labor's national animal is the dragon, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies.

Opressed Labor is ranked 153,239th in the world and 413th in Concord for Most Subsidized Industry, scoring 566.86 on the Gilded Widget Scale.
